Common FAQ's

Common FAQs we hear when it comes to Antifoul painting:

  • How often should I repaint my bottom in CT waters?

    • While this is a subjective question, a quality bottom job will last about 2-3 Seasons depending on wear and maintenance. Some factors that contribute to the condition of the antifoul are: Fresh or salt water use, if the boat gets hauled every season & power washed, initial bottom installation (Was the barrier coat done correctly?), use case (How often do you use the boat? Does it sit?), ablative vs non-ablative paints wear differently under use- All of these factors contribute to the longevity of your boats Antifoul Paint.

  • What kind of paint do you use? Can I request a brand/type?

    • We use all paints available on the market, and can source just about any specific paint upon request. Our favorite go-to paint on the market is Pettit Hydrocoat, as its a waterbased paint making for easy cleanup, and installation. Along with this, it has some incredible ablative & self-cleaning properties allowing for a durable finish- not to mention a favorable price point!

We offer wholesale pricing on our paints, saving you money on one of the most expensive projects you can do on your boat. If you have a paint in mind, or currently have some sitting around, we can also use that upon request (Just note we cannot provide any warranty on opened cans of paint)

  • Can you work at my marina or do you need the boat at your shop?

    • We do both! We work in most every marina that allows contractors (Even the strict ones), and can service the boat where it sits. That being said, if the boat is on a trailer, we would prefer to accommodate it at our shop. This way we can ensure a climate controlled facility assisting in easier and more flexible scheduling (especially in the colder months).

  • Do you handle blocking/jack-stands or does the yard do that?

    • Typically, we handle blocking and poppets so your boat is safely supported while we work. If your marina has specific rules about who can adjust stands or blocks, we’ll coordinate with them to make sure everything is set up properly before we start and left secure when we’re finished. If having the boat serviced at our shop, we safely remove the boat from the trailer, and replace it afterwards once the service is complete.

  • How long does a typical bottom job take?

    • Timing depends on the size of the boat, the condition of the existing paint, the level of service needed (maintenance vs. full restoration), and weather/curing conditions. A simple scuff-and-paint is usually much faster than a full strip, barrier coat, and repaint. Once we see the boat and understand the scope of work, we’ll give you a clear timeline and schedule so you know exactly how long we anticipate our service to take.
